Getting "ASSERTION ERROR" messages

OS: Linux 2.4.9-31smp
I've been getting the following messages from mknmz on occassion:
ASSERTION ERROR!: NMZ.r (585) and NMZ.t (586) are not consistent! at /share/namazu/pl/util.pl line 257.
What is the meaning of this message and does it imply that there will
be problems with searching? It does appear that newer files are not
in the search index. mknmz does return a non-zero exit status when
the above message is generated.
