From hgs at dmu.ac.uk Fri May 9 00:11:06 2008 From: hgs at dmu.ac.uk (Hugh Sasse) Date: Fri May 9 00:21:16 2008 Subject: [Namazu-users-en] "Error! can't open the result format file" Message-ID: Having installed namazu and built the index: C:\namazu\share\locale>namazu --version namazu of Namazu 2.0.18 [...] C:\namazu\share\locale>mknmz --version Use of uninitialized value in concatenation (.) or string at C:\ namazu\bin/mknmz line 250. mknmz of Namazu 2.0.18 [...] I have indexed the whole disk which took a while. The config file says that the default index should be in C:\namazu\var\namazu\index but it got created in C:\ which I was indexing. This seems strange for something with a default. However, when I search for something I get: C:\>namazu namazu C:\ Results: References: [ namazu: 1707 ] Total 1707 documents matching your query. Error! can't open the result format file C:\> Firstly, again I have to supply the index path, when it should default (and presumably complain I have no index at the defualt location). Secondly, which "result format file" can it not open? What is in such a file? I could then write something to create an appropriate one. Maybe there needs to be a default format. Thirdly, can I move the NMZ.* to the index directory and have the defualts just work? Must I do someething else? Searching on the namazu.org site, or with Google, turns up nothing useful. Thank you for your patience. Or does it just talk about its own configuration? If it looks around to see what is there, then I have Cygwin and Mingw on this machine. So it may be finding those tools and telling us about them. > > > Compiler: > > cc='gcc', ccflags ='-DNDEBUG -DWIN32 -D_CONSOLE -DNO_STRICT > > -DHAVE_DES_FCRYPT -DNO_HASH_SEED -DUSE_SITECUSTOMIZE -DPERL_IMPL > > ICIT_CONTEXT -DPERL_IMPLICIT_SYS -DUSE_PERLIO -DPERL_MSVCRT_READ > > FIX -DHASATTRIBUTE -fno-strict-aliasing', > > Why are you compiled by gcc? I don't know. In Unix we have 'which' to say where a command is found. I don't know what there is for Windows. [Usually I find the Windows documentation insufficient or nonexistent. I've been using Unix since 1982. That it why I have Cygwin and Mingw installed. Also in Cygwin I get a window that handles ANSI colour for highlighting things. The CMD window does not, even if MSDOS V5 did. :-(] That way I could see which perl is being found. In the same way that namazu insists that it be on the %PATH%, so does cygwin. I don't know a good way to turn one off while using the other (in another window). > > Has not ActivePerl mixed with Perl of cygwin? I don't know how the two could be confused by the same CMD shell. Maybe I should give up and try to build namazu using only cygwin? Do you have other users using Cygwin and Mingw, with a Windows Native namazu? If you do, then there is some value in finding out what is happening. If you do not then before I attempt a build using only Cygwin, I should see what happens if I re-install ActivePerl, even if it is not newer. You have given me so much help that I should use this experience to help your users, and thereby help you.
