There are quite defferent. -O option indicates output directory, and
--update option indicates to read options from NMZ.status file instead
of command line arguments.
So if you create an index once, you can use --update option to ommit
other options.

It depends on filename of mailbox. If you use MH style mailbox, you
need to add -a option. -h option assumes all of target files are
rfc822 format. Usally it is recognized automatically, so you don't
need to add -h option.

The template is used for namazu/namazu.cgi output. Usually it is
stored in the index directory named as NMZ.head.*, NMZ.foot.* and many
files. You can see the description at:

namazu/namazu.cgi can use multiple indices so it requires to specify
which template files to use, it is "template dir".
