UTF-8 support ?

Is Namazu capable of indexing UTF-8 characters ? I'm dealing with
a variety of English (ASCII) and Arabic (UTF-8) docs and would like
to index and search both, is that possible ? If not, is that being
worked on - is it in the near-future plans ?
I'm currently using swish-e and am rather disappointed at its lacking
UTF-8 support.
